Abstract: The objective of this work was to carry out a preliminary evaluation of information regarding the presence of Tilapia in net cage (TTR) and Tambaqui in fish pond (TVE) in the Brazilian states. The species Tambaqui and Tilapia, respectively native and exotic, are the most important fish species in aquaculture scale of production in Brazil. These fish farming has been carried out in Semi-Intensive and Intensive production systems. Guidelines for Best Practices of Management and Environmental Management of aquaculture production systems should be made available to enable practices according to the environmental sustainability of the producing areas. The software Aquisys version 1.3 provided this information for tilapia production system of fish pond. A new version will incorporate two new routines for the production systems of TTR and TVE (PCMAN/BRS-Aqua Project). The identification of Brazilian state areas with the production of these systems, as well as their legal aspects, farmers? demands, and expanding areas should be prospected so that they can be evaluated by aquaculture specialists within the scope of a strategy for the elaboration of this new version. Different sources of information were identified and analyzed, resulting in organized knowledge in spreadsheets and mind maps (FreeMind). The results already obtained indicated the occurrence of TTR and TVE production systems in states of all regions of the country (mainly in those of NE (77.8%) and Midwest (66.7%)). The TTR is present in 21 states and in the Federal District (DF) whereas the TVE, in 18 states, whose aquaculture laws were identified. The main demands highlighted by states and DF were Legislation (59.3%), and Technical Assistance/Training/Knowledge Diffusion (37.0%). Here we provide the ‘Global Spectrum of Plant Form and Function Dataset’, containing species mean values for six vascular plant traits. Together, these traits –plant height, stem specific density, leaf area, leaf mass per area, leaf nitrogen content per dry mass, and diaspore (seed or spore) mass – define the primary axes of variation in plant form and function. The dataset is based on ca. 1 million trait records received via the TRY database (representing ca. 2,500 original publications) and additional unpublished data. It provides 92,159 species mean values for the six traits, covering 46,047 species. The data are complemented by higher-level taxonomic classification and six categorical traits (woodiness, growth form, succulence, adaptation to terrestrial or aquatic habitats, nutrition type and leaf type). Data quality management is based on a probabilistic approach combined with comprehensive validation against expert knowledge and external information. Intense data acquisition and thorough quality control produced the largest and, to our knowledge, most accurate compilation of empirically observed vascular plant species mean traits to date. |
